Wakefoil - Mike Murphy Carbon Pro 900

Sometimes you come across an odd looking foil. This is one of them! It is the Mike Murphy Carbon Pro 900 foil. Those of you that do not know Mike Murphy. He is the inventor of the modern T-foil with several patents behind his name. Mike has been foiling for over 50 years! I wish I can say that in 47 years, haha... Recently he started to do some work with the Armstrong team.

The Mike Murphy Carbon Pro foil has been designed for those of you that know how to wakeboard and want to get into wake foiling or tow foiling behind a boat. It is intended to mimic the feeling you get on a wakeboard. It should feel very natural to those of you that can wakeboard or waterski properly. I do not have access to a wake boat, so I tried it with my much beloved winch.

I was blown away on how it performs. I have seen many people that struggle with the sudden pop up of the foil. It's something that is not easy to master. With speed the foil generates the lift and they you pop out of the water. it is at that point you need to shift your weight forward. You need to learn how to control it or you breach and crash. This is the difficult thing when learning how to foil.

The Mike Murphy Carbon Pro 900 has such gradual lift, unbelievable. It almost feels like there is no hard pop up, but when the speed increases, the foil just lifts off, without the tendency to buck you off.

As you can see in the above video. The boards starts planning. It then gradually lifts out of the water. The speed at which I am going here is 15 kmh. So you do not need massive speeds to get foiling, despite it relative small size of 900 cm2. As you can see in the video as well, is that I am on the back foot. There is no need to immediately put the weight forward when on the foil.  Since it is quite low aspect, do not expect lots of glide or pump. It is not the wing for that. Even though the span is quite low, the foils feels really stable. It still is also quite maneuverable, more than enough to start practicing those hard turns. Enough pop for boosting those first airs.

So, if you are a seasoned wakeboarder and you want to try wakefoiling, this might be THE foil for you to learn on. It lowers the entry to foiling to a level that anyone can try. There are no sharp edges and the foil is very compact.

The front wing is now available in the shop and if you want to do a demo, just reach out. A demo unit is also available. And, stay tuned, more exciting wakefoil stuff from Armstrong dropping soon!

(for those of you that have seen this front wing takes three screws. That is correct. The most fowards screw is a slightly shorter standard torx screw that all Armstrong gear uses. You do not need a special fuselage for this foil. It fits a standard A+ fuselage, any size, 50, 60 or 70)
